The Old Village School in Üçpınar Transformed into a Guesthouse

Nilüfer Municipality is continuing its efforts to diversify and promote rural tourism and has added another milestone to its achievements following the Başköy Bicycle House. The old primary school in Üçpınar Quarter has been restored and transformed into the Üçpınar Guesthouse. This facility now offers hikers, cyclists, campers and nature lovers a place to stay, relax and engage in educational activities and workshops. The opening ceremony was well attended by walking enthusiasts, locals, the Mayor of Nilüfer, Turgay Erdem, and local muhtars. During the event, Mayor Erdem highlighted the growing recognition of the Mysia Ways across Turkey, describing it as a destination that connects city dwellers with nature and sport through a range of alternatives. He highlighted the region's diverse routes for hiking, horseback riding, and cycling, and expressed plans to further enrich Mysia Ways with new investments.

Erdem reminded that they took over the old and unused village schools in the villages on the Mysia Ways and emphasised that they repaired these buildings and gave them new functions. He emphasised that their objective is to preserve the memories of those who have lived in these locations. The objective is to ensure that the schools they attended and the experiences they had are not forgotten. Erdem also announced the launch of the first phase of the project in Başköy, which involved the opening of a Bicycle House to cater to the diverse needs of visitors to the area. He proceeded to outline the second phase of the Üçpınar project, which entailed the restoration of the old village school, which is currently unused. The surrounding area has been developed to meet the needs of those who wish to engage in camping and nature sports. The Üçpınar House provides accommodation, rest, training and workshop activities for hikers, cyclists, campers and nature lovers. The facilities include a camping area, an activity hall, a kitchen, showers, toilets and a guesthouse with capacity for six people.

Erdem highlighted the strategic location of Üçpınar on Mysia Ways, which connects Nilüfer’s mountainous quarters, Lake Uluabat, and the Marmara Sea coast. Drawing attention to the need for such a resting point in the region, Erdem said, “I hope that with these efforts to support nature and cultural tourism in our rural regions, an eco-friendly tourism approach will flourish in our region and strengthen local development by creating alternative sources of income for our people here.”

At the opening, Üçpınar Muhtar Adnan Uçar reminded that the doors and windows of the old school building were broken due to lack of maintenance. He thanked Nilüfer Municipality Mayor Erdem and all those who contributed to the investment.  He also said “As the village community, we will share the use of this space with the municipality for events, weddings, and gatherings.”

Following the opening ceremony, attendees enjoyed a live performance by the band RednBlack in the lush garden of Üçpınar Guesthouse, creating a memorable experience surrounded by nature.

Before the opening of the Üçpınar Guesthouse, a hike was organised along the Mysia Roads. The group began their journey in Kadriye Quarter, passing through the lush forests in the southernmost part of Nilüfer, and covered a 6 kilometre route before reaching Üçpınar Quarter.
